Ever since the 1980s teaching foreign languages for specific purposes has assumed a particularly interesting methodological position. No matter whether understood as separate from general second-language acquisition or only a sideway project, it is a worthy endeavor. This conference aims at exploring current concerns of LSP in order to find out in which direction the field is moving. Hoping to succeed in this goal, we invite you to share your research results, theoretical ideas and practical insights in a fruitful discussion.
Submissions are welcome in the following areas:
Teaching writing skills
- Dealing with a variety of academic contexts and a diversity of students’ specializations, entering particular writing communities
- Differentiating genres (both academic and professional)
- Approaches to teaching writing (process approach vs. text-based approach)
- Re-evaluating the role of rhetoric
Teaching languages to students with special needs
- Teaching foreign languages to students with special needs, including students with specific learning differences
- Developing phonological/orthographic and syntactic skills for SLD
- The role of language, memory and attention interaction
- Use of assistive technologies for other impairments
Teaching LSP and communication skills
- Content language acquisition versus general language acquisition
- Developing effective interpersonal communication in occupational settings
- Different approaches to learning and using topic-specific vocabulary (including the use of corpora)
- The rising need for intercultural communication skills
- The position of a needs analysis in higher education
- Teaching academic and professional communication to support international mobility
Technologies and Media
- The changing role of video and films
- Enhancing communicative competence through mobile technology
- Gamification: game elements in LSP teaching
- Benefits of social media in a LSP class
- Learning management systems and blended learning in LSP courses
